"Joe's Project" : New helpline for loved ones of suicide victims

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner reported that between 1997 and 2006,  an average of two Suffolk County residents a week committed suicide.   Suffolk County has funded a new program – Joe’s Project – to assist the loved ones of suicide victims.  The Family Service League and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention manage the program.   Trained volunteers can be reached at 516-869-4215.  They provide help for suicide survivors and information on family counseling, survivor support groups and community education.
