The library will review scholarship applications again at the end of the year. Apply before December 1, 2026 to be considered.
About the Scholarship
Each year the Trustees of the John Jermain Memorial Library will, to the extent sufficient funds are available, distribute one or more scholarships to individuals who will be continuing their formal education. This includes but is not necessarily limited to trade or vocational school and certification programs, BOCES adult education, and/or college level, graduate & post graduate course work.
Funding for the scholarship(s) will come from fundraising events and/or corporate or private donors solicited by the Trustees and/or Director. Applicants are eligible to receive up to a total of $5,000 over a three-year period.
The ad hoc Scholarship Committee will be responsible for evaluating and selecting the winning applicant(s). The authors of the personal statements will remain anonymous during the entire evaluation and selection process. The Committee will recommend the scholarship amount to be awarded to the recipient(s) and the applicable year(s), for approval by the Board of Trustees.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications will be considered by the committee in June and December. The deadline to apply for consideration in June is June 1st, and the deadline to apply for consideration in December is December 1st. The Committee reserves the right to select the location for presenting the scholarship(s) to the winner(s).
This scholarship is awarded on a rolling basis. You may apply at any time.
Scholarship Criteria
- Applicants must reside in the John Jermain Memorial Library District and possess a valid John Jermain Memorial Library Card.
- Selection is based on a (750-1,000 word) personal statement outlining your future career goals and how the certification, coursework, and/or classes you plan to take will help you to achieve these goals.
- Financial need may be considered.
- Applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer (past or present)

Family members of Trustees and the Library Director are not eligible to apply for a scholarship. Family members shall include: spouses, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the spouses of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After the recipient(s) is (are) selected, the Library Executive Director will contact the winning applicant(s). Information about the scholarship and its recipients will be published in the Library newsletter, the local newspaper and any other local media the Trustees deem appropriate.
In selecting recipient(s), the Library will ensure that all applicable laws are followed. Donors to the scholarship fund cannot determine nor advise on the recipient(s). Any non-U.S. citizen who receives a scholarship cannot be on a published “Specifically Designated Nationals” terrorism watch list.
