Over the last 100 years quite a few great (and some not-so-great) books have been turned into great (and not-so-great) movies. Since both books and movies play a central role in the life of the John Jermain Memorial Library, we thought it would be fun to honor this tradition as part of the Library’s centennial celebration. So, for the next ten months we will be showing a film made from a classic book that was published in each of the ten decades the library has been in existence. The films will be shown on the third Thursday of each month and, following the showing, time will be allowed to discuss the both the book and the film. We’re calling this series Thursday Night Reads.
If you would like to refresh your memory (or read a book for the first time) before viewing the related film, all the books are available in the library or through interlibrary loan. The first book and film, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton (copyright 1911), will be shown on Thursday, March 18th at 6:00 p.m. The schedule and titles of all books and films is below. It is also posted in the library.
As is only fitting, popcorn will be served at the films.
