Take & Make Kits
Introducing… activity kits! The library is happy to now provide activity kits that you can reserve and pick-up in addition to your books – Take ’em, and make ’em! We have a variety of kits for different ages and interests- and some even come with a live program you can attend to help you socialize and work on your project!

How do they work?
If you see a kit you would like, you can reserve it by calling the library at (631)725-0049 or emailing us at holds@johnjermain.org and we will add it to the holds shelf for you. Or, you can come visit us and grab one yourself from the Take & Make table located on the Lower Level near circulation.
Adult Kits

Origami
Get a stack of colorful, patterned origami paper with a step-by-step instructions on how to create origami masterpieces.
Air Plant Kits
Use polymer clay to make a planter for a mini air plant. Care instructions for your new plant are included!
Book Subscription Boxes
Each month will have a different theme or genre. Included in your box will be a book (yours to keep!) as well as stickers, crafts, snacks, and other goodies. Online registration is required, supplies are limited. Get more details by visiting our calendar.
Coloring Sheet Kits
Teens will get a packet of 10 coloring sheets with varying levels of intricacy, all you need is colored pencils! Choose from regular coloring sheets or seasonal themed packets.
Decorate a Photo Frame
Receive a white wooden frame to paint and decorate in your own style. Frame, stencils, brushes, and paint are included.
Origami Kit
Teens will get a stack of colorful origami paper with a step-by-step list of projects they can use to help them create a paper masterpiece.

Beaded Necklace Kit
Kids will get one beaded chain necklace and a handful of beads to create a necklace they can wear for the summer!

Letter Tracing Activity
Recommended for ages 2-5 years. Does your child need practice with making their upper and lower case letters? Take this letter tracing activity home with you to practice! Each sheet of paper includes a letter of the alphabet, a word that begins with it, and the tracing of both the upper and lower case form of that letter. Please note, the alphabet is broken into segments: A-C, D-F, G-I, J-L, M-O, P-S, T-V, W-Z. You may take them out all at once or one and/or few at a time.

Scratch Art Kit
Kids will get a fun design scratch sheet and one wooden stylus. Reveal the bright colors and patterns beneath the matte coating with just a simple scratch!

Seasonal Kits
Each month, we will have a special take & make for kids to enjoy. Please call 631-725-0049 x0 to find out what this month’s special kit(s) are!

Sandsnap Activity Kit
- Kids will get the chance to participate in a citizen science research project that is currently taking place at James Madison University, in the Geology and Environmental Science Department. Help them by taking photos of local beach sand sediments and sending it to their database using a phone or computer! Further information can be found in the instruction booklet inside the kit on how to upload your photos.
- Have fun partaking in some of the sand activities that are provided for you using the equipment inside the kit. You will find the instructions of the activities in the instruction booklet.
- We have a total of two kits that will be made available to check out for a three day loan period. You must call 631-725-0049 x0 to reserve this kit ahead of time or while you stop in for a grab and go appointment. Please note that the kits are large black bags and cannot be returned in our outdoor drop box. You must call ahead and drop off the kit during our plaza pick up hours: Tuesday-Friday 10:30-5:30 PM and Saturday and Monday 10:00-3:00 PM.
