Do you remember your first visit to a library? I vividly recall my excitement the day my mother took me to our local public library where I received my very own library card. I eagerly watched, as the librarian typed my name on the front of the small blue card and carefully inserted it into its sleeve. I felt proud and important! Once home, I quickly found a secret place to keep my card safe from the prying fingers of a curious younger sister. It was my ticket to travel the world and beyond! It allowed me to explore shelves upon shelves of books that would launch me into new adventures across the globe and universe. The library was a magical place, full of books written for kids, and I could borrow any of them anytime! It’s where I learned that there was more than one Nancy Drew book! It’s where my lifelong love for libraries began.
The JJML is the perfectly magical place that serves Sag Harbor’s diverse and thriving community. With a dedicated professional staff and director, whose commitment to serving you, makes this library the welcoming community center we all love and treasure. Our creatively designed programs, tailored for all ages, continue to be met with great enthusiasm and attendance. Whether you need a book recommendation, seek assistance with online research, need to borrow a sewing machine or a blood pressure monitor, or planning a museum visit, or need a quiet space to think about things, or work on your novel in the serenity of the Scala Rotunda, these and countless other opportunities await you right here. Come and explore all the world’s possibilities, it is after all, your library!
Recently 150 patrons responded to our survey. Your thoughts, ideas and requests are very important as they guide us in addressing your needs, planning programs and building our collections. While we have already implemented many of your suggestions, there are three high on the wish list. Your contribution can make them happen!
- You requested more book/author presentations, lectures and concerts in the Scala Rotunda.
- Cooking classes for teens and adults were very popular and you asked for more. A Kitchen a la Carte, a portable teaching kitchen, will allow
- us to improve these programs.
- Our Local History Archives Center is growing thanks to donations from community members. We plan to use a digital preservation and research data management system which will allow us to share the collection worldwide.
If you wish to support the growth of these programs, please make a tax-deductible donation to the John Jermain Memorial Library.
Thank you for your consideration,
Diane
