The John Jermain Library Annual Appeal

Dear Neighbors,
November marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, activist, suffragette, and philanthropist. She gave Sag Harbor its school, its park, and of course, always and forever, its library. Even a century later, she is alive to me. But it is you who give life to her vision of a strong and informed community that works together for the common good. At their November 1918 meeting, the Library’s Board of Trustees, declared that they would “each and all use in the future every effort to promote and perpetuate in Sag Harbor the work begun by her and which was dear to her heart.”

Let us “each and all” remember that what Margaret Sage held dear to her heart was us, and this place we call home: this generally golden-lit, sometimes misty-grey, place on the harbor. Come and discover your history at the library, meet your neighbors at the library, shape your future at the library. And if you can, make a tax-deductible donation to John Jermain.

100 years from now, your gift will still be alive.

With thanks,
Catherine Creedon, Director
