Thank You for Celebrating!

Dear Neighbors,

This photograph, taken of the “Great American Eclipse” on August 21, 2017, captures a special moment in the library’s history. If you weren’t there, you missed the live music, and crowds of people singing; the NASA live-stream, and crowds of people watching; the free eclipse-viewing glasses and the black-and-white cookies, and crowds of people sharing.

Our celebrations were masked and muted this year, but equally momentous, as my colleagues found new and different ways to provide programming and resources during the pandemic. And our neighbors?  Wow—Many of you have come to borrow books, or our Take-and-Make Craft Kits.  Many have called for tutorials on downloading e-books and movies.  And many have sent us well wishes and donations: Thanks to your support of our 10/10/2020 matching-grant campaign, we have received almost $15,000 in gifts from our patrons. If you can make a donation, we still have a few more days to reach the $20,000 level to get the most from this matching grant from a generous and anonymous donor.

And if this is not the year when you can make a donation, please come by and share your ideas with me: Quiet or crowded, libraries are the collective beating heart of the communities they serve, and your support and suggestions make John Jermain stronger. As soon as we can have a party, you’re invited—in the meantime stop by and let me know what you’ll wish for when we can blow out birthday candles again.

With gratitude,  Catherine Creedon, Director
