The word Chipotle is derived from the Nahuatl word ‘chilpoctli’ which means ‘smoked chili’. (Nahuatl is the language spoken by members of an American people from Mexico and Central America that included the Aztecs.) There is only one primary ingredient in Chipotle Powder and that is jalapeno peppers.
The jalapeños are first ripened and then dried, typically over wood smoke, which imparts a distinct smoky flavor to the peppers. After drying, the peppers are ground into a fine powder. Chipotle powder has a moderate heat level and a deep, smoky taste, making it a popular ingredient in Mexican cuisine and Southwestern dishes. It’s often used to season meats, sauces, soups, and stews, adding both heat and a rich, smoky depth to the flavor profile. It’s also commonly included in spice blends like chili powder or barbecue rubs.
Chipotle Powder is mildly spicy and is the perfect addition if you want to add a deep and complex heat that does not overpower the dish. It gives a spicy flavor that is perfect for burritos, tacos and quesadillas
