How to Respond to the 2020 Census

Is there something you forgot to do today?

With all the distractions of living with the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s easy to forget one of the most important things you could do right now: respond to the 2020 Census.  The Census takes just a few moments to complete.  If you need a little help, feel free to call us at 631-725-0049 ext. 223 and leave a message or email

Here are a few of the many reasons why responding to the Census is so important.

Results of the Census are used to:

  • Determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives
  • Adjust or re-draw congressional and state legislative districts
  • Determine decisions on how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to Communities for over 100 programs including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services and SNAP (the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program

To date, Sag Harbor’s response rate is only 26.6% compared to the NY state average of 55.0 % !  It’s not too late to be counted and have your say.  You can complete your Census form online, by phone, or by mailing back the paper questionnaire sent to your home.
