On-Site: Banned Book Club, “Speak”

Banned Books Week is an annual occurrence celebrating all books and speaking out against censorship. This year, it’s from September 26 – October 2, 2021. Each year, the American Library Association (ALA) releases a list of the top ten most challenged books of the previous year.
Please join us in celebrating Banned Books Week by reading Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, and then meeting in a special Banned Books Club session to discuss it. Speak was #5 on the list of challenged books this year. Read more about why it has been challenged, along with the rest of 2021’s top challenged books, on ALA’s website.
Please read the book before the meeting on September 30. Copies of the book are available for pick-up starting September 1- just ask at the Welcome Desk in the lower level of the library. You can also read or listen to the audiobook online through the links below:
