LI Reads Event: Separate Even In death – Black Funerals and Cemeteries

Adults. Part of the Long Island Reads Programming, hosted by the Peninsula Public Library. Segregation extended into death for African Americans, especially in the Southern U.S. In observance of Black History Month, Genealogist Dr. Janice Lovelace will discuss the development of separate funeral homes and burial grounds as well as burial practices for African Americans from the 16th to the 20th century in an illustrated Zoom presentation. Registration is required, and open to all. An email with the Zoom login will be sent prior to the program.
