Activity: Story Time

April 19 @ 11:00 am - 11:30 am EDT

Heroes/Bravery Week

For today’s story time we have Dule Hill reading As Fast As Words Could Fly by Pamela M. Tuck and illustrated by Eric Velasquez. This story takes place during the Civil Rights Movement and how young Mason Steele receives a typewriter as a gift, teaching himself to type. His intelligence and talent help him through attending an all-white high school despite his fears and the injustice from students and faculty. His bravery helps him triumph over prejudice and breaks racial barriers. Check out this teacher’s guide for activities based on the book.
