A self-taught artist and Shinnecock elder, Gloria Smith views her work not merely in aesthetic terms, but as a social practice in continuity with her personal ties, heritage, and family tradition of artistry. Her work, primarily in acrylic on canvas, utilizes abstract motifs and indigenous themes taking inspiration from the artistry of our everyday surroundings.
