2019 Annual Appeal

Dear Neighbors,

I have been lucky enough to work at a variety of libraries, including a library that looked like a castle, one that looked like a fish, a prison library, a museum library, and a state archive.  I also worked at a library without a restroom, where the bother of having facilities across a county road and around the back of the local gas station was totally offset by the fact that I could cross-country ski to work.  That library, an early trailblazer in the the whole “Library of Things” movement, circulated dress patterns, a sewing machine, a chain saw, an extension ladder, and two coffee urns.

While these stories are from an era so far in the past that I’m not sure my colleagues actually believe them, our plans for 2020 do include the creation of a Library of Things for our patrons! With your help and generosity, this time next year you could be visiting the library to print out your family photos, using a Cricut cutting machine for home or library crafts, borrowing a GoPro camera and trail map for your next vacation, or attending a library event where you can program and race robots through a homemade course.

Your generosity and ideas will help make this possible. If you would like to support this new initiative at John Jermain, you can contribute by contacting me, or by making a secure tax-deductible donation here. Or, you can stop by and let me know what ideas you might have for this collection—who knows, maybe next year you will be able to borrow a cake pan shaped like a castle…or a fish.

Here’s to the year ahead!
