Beware of Medicare Fraud Schemes

The government is advising Medicare participants to beware of Medicare fraud associated with the COVID-19 crisis. They warn that “Scammers may use COVID-19 as an opportunity to steal your identity and commit Medicare fraud. In some cases, they might tell you they’ll send you a Coronavirus test, masks, or other items in exchange for your Medicare number or personal information.”  For details on how to protect yourself from these nefarious tactics, please visit the Medicare.gov website.

If you receive your Social Security check or other Federal Government payment by mail and have no way of retrieving it from the Post Office, you may want to consider signing up for direct deposit. This can be done online, at your local bank, credit union or savings and loan.  You can also call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).  Visit  fiscal.treasury.gov/GoDirect for details.
