Join our Online Book Club!

We’re launching an online book club on the library’s Facebook page! From the comfort of your own home, join us in reading The Silmarillion, by J. R. R. Tolkien. Grab your own copy of the book, or use the ebook available on hoopla, here with your library card: https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/12325751. (If you need help getting started with hoopla, email us at info@johnjermain.org!)

Every Monday at 4:00 pm, we’ll be posting a new episode of the 2015 podcast Talking Tolkien, a long-time favorite podcast of Arielle, JJML’s Emerging Technologies Librarian. This podcast tackles each section or chapter of The Silmarillion, explaining this difficult text as we go. Of the three hosts, one is the daughter of a Tolkien scholar and grew up with Tolkien’s works, another is a childhood fan of Tolkien, and the last is completely new to reading Tolkien- so there’s something for everyone!

Whether you read along with us, or just want a short-hand summary of the work, check back every Monday at 4:00 pm on Facebook for each new episode, and discuss The Silmarillion with your neighbors from the comfort of your own home.

Our first ‘meeting’ is next week on March 23rd, where we will listen to a discussion of the first two sections on The Silmarillion: the Ainulindalë and the Valaquenta.

See you there!
