Did you know February is Love Your Library Month? Also known as Library Lovers’ Month, February is the perfect time of year to tell everyone just how much you love libraries. Of course, the best way to show your love of libraries is simply to use them! But just in case you want to do more, we put together a list of ways you can share your love of all things libraries.
1. Be a Library Advocate
Tell people how much you love the library, and why! The best marketing plan in the world can’t compete with word-of-mouth recommendations. Advocate for libraries at a state and local level too, and help your friends and family see the value in their libraries.
2. Become a Friend of the Library
Did you know our library has a Friends group? This lively and engaged group of library supporters run activities and fundraisers that support our community programs. The Friends meet monthly on the second Thursday of the month– meetings will start up again in March. Stop by and see what it’s all about!
3. Bring a friend to the library
Bring someone you know to the library who’s never been here before. Whether they like to read, cook, paint… there’s a book or class we know they’ll love, and you can help get them in the door. It’ll be love at first sight!
4. Tell Us Your Story
JJML’s Local History & Special Collections isn’t just about preserving the past– it’s about preserving the present, too! We’re always looking for people to record oral histories about their life in Sag Harbor, such as veterans, or those present during historic village events. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. It’s a quick and painless process, we promise!
All donations, big and small, make a difference! A $10 donation can help purchase a new graphic novel, while a $10,000 donation could help fund a year-long program series, or a start a maker space. Previous donors have funded programs such as bilingual tutoring, the Teen Writing Group, citizenship, language learning classes, and more. Donate via PayPal
6. Love Your Library, Love Your Community
Finally, we want to take all your love for libraries and pay it forward to the community. During the month of February we will be collecting nonperishable canned goods for the Sag Harbor Food Pantry. If you love the library, please bring something on your next visit, and we’ll pass that love on to others!
