John Jermain Memorial Library will be returning to its historic building on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Festivities will begin at the interim facility, located at 34 W Water Street, where community members are invited to join library staff at 10:30 as they lock the door and hand off the last book to leave the temporary space, Sag Harbor The Story of an American Beauty by Dorothy Ingersoll Zaykowski, and pass it, hand-to-hand, up the west side of Main Street to the restored and expanded building at 201 Main Street.
The ribbon cutting will take place around 11:00, depending on how long it takes the book to travel. Ribbon cutters include Pierson High School graduates Mayor Sandra Schroeder and Assemblyman Fred Thiele; they will be joined by the seven JJML staff and board members who graduated from Sag Harbor schools. Festive music will be provided by the Sag Harbor Community Band and local vendors have donated cookies and cupcakes.
The “Book Brigade” will be filmed—hands only—so if you come, feel free to wear henna or major gemstones.
