All Fall Down introduces Allison, a blog writer, busy mother, caregiver to her parents, and dissatisfied wife. She is generally overwhelmed by the hectic turns that her life has taken. Allison starts to turn toward pain killers to help her get through each day. The story follows the easy downward spiral that Allison falls into with prescription pills heading toward a dangerous turn. In recovery, Allison learns to give up her easy sarcasm in order to embrace recovery. The story provides a glimpse into addiction, and its potential for destruction. I was captivated by the way that Allison negotiated with herself to justify taking pills. There was something about the ending that didn’t feel realistic. Overall the story was well paced, thought provoking and compelling.
