On September 16, 2008 the John Jermain Memorial Library held its annual Trustee Election and Budget Vote. Four candidates were on the ballot for three trustee positions. Incumbents Christiane Neuville and Tippy Ameres were re-elected with 159 and 148 votes respectively. Craig Rhodes was elected to the third seat with a total of 139 votes. Their terms commence on January 1st 2009 and run through December 31st 2011. This three-year period will encompasses the Library’s centennial, a probable referendum, a possible expansion, and certain stewardship of this lively institution as it readies itself for the next 100 years. All of us at John Jermain thank these trustees and their colleagues on the Board for their service.
We also thank Susan Merrell, one of the first group of trustees to be elected three years ago to what, historically, had been an appointed board. Merrell lent her talents and passion to the library’s fundraising activities, and was the creative force behind our annual “One for the Books!” event. She withdrew her name from the contest a week before the election because of personal and professional commitments; her name remained on the ballot however and she received 109 votes.
Finally our thanks to you, Sag Harbor: Our 2008 operating budget of $989,580 was overwhelmingly approved by School District voters, 173 to 33.
